The four terms that decide a bonus's value

1. The rollover multiplier

How many times the qualifying amount must be wagered before the balance unlocks. Ranges from 3x at Ozoon to 14x at SportsBetting.ag among the books we track. This is the number operators advertise, and on its own it is misleading.

2. The rollover base — the term nobody reads

The multiplier applies either to the bonus alone or to your deposit and bonus combined. Those are not close to equivalent. Take a $500 deposit with a $500 bonus: at 5x on bonus only you owe $2,500, and at 5x on deposit plus bonus you owe $5,000. The same advertised 5x means twice the work. Compare a 5x-on-bonus offer against a 10x-on-deposit-plus-bonus offer and the gap widens to four times.

3. Minimum odds

Wagers priced below the floor contribute nothing. Bovada counts anything at -500 or longer, which is nearly every bet a normal person places. Books with a -200 floor silently discard a large share of favourite-side action, making their nominally identical rollover meaningfully harder to complete.

4. The expiry window

For recreational bettors the clock binds before the multiplier does. TigerGaming's 60-day window makes a 10x requirement comfortable; the same 10x over 14 days would not be. When comparing two offers with similar multipliers, the longer window is usually the better offer.

How to calculate real value

Work it in three steps. First, compute the required turnover: multiplier times base. Second, compare that figure against the turnover you genuinely expect to generate inside the expiry window — not the turnover you hope to. If the requirement exceeds your realistic volume, the bonus is worth zero no matter how large it is.

Third, if it does fit, express the bonus as a percentage of required turnover. A $375 bonus needing $1,875 of action is 20% of turnover; a $1,000 bonus needing $22,500 is 4.4%. Above roughly 15% is a strong offer, and below 5% is marketing. This one calculation reorders the market almost completely against how the offers are advertised.

Worked example

Book A: 100% up to $1,000, 14x on bonus. Deposit $1,000, receive $1,000, owe $14,000 in 30 days. Value as a share of turnover: 7.1% — and most bettors never reach $14,000 in a month, so realised value is nil.

Book B: 75% up to $750, 5x on bonus. Deposit $1,000, receive $750, owe $3,750 in 30 days. Value as a share of turnover: 20%, and the turnover is achievable. Book B wins despite the smaller headline.

Why crypto bonuses beat card bonuses

Operators pay more for crypto deposits because crypto deposits do not get declined by issuing banks, do not carry chargeback risk, and cost less to process. That saving is passed on: Bovada's crypto match is 75% up to $750 against 50% up to $250 on cards, and SportsBetting.ag's headline offer is crypto-only. The crypto route also puts you in the faster payout lane, which is worth having independently of the bonus.

The choice is usually one-time and irreversible. Depositing by card first often locks you out of the larger crypto offer on that account permanently.

When to decline the bonus entirely

Declining is a legitimate option at every book on this site, and it is the right one more often than the industry would like you to believe. Take no bonus if you are depositing to bet one game, if you plan to withdraw within days, or if the required turnover exceeds what you would place anyway. A bonus you forfeit at withdrawal cost you nothing in cash but it cost you the flexibility to cash out when you wanted to.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a good rollover requirement for a sportsbook bonus?

Anything at or below 5x applied to the bonus amount alone is genuinely bettor-friendly. 10x on deposit plus bonus is roughly four times harder to clear despite sounding only twice as large. Above 15x on any base, treat the bonus as marketing rather than value.

Are crypto bonuses bigger than fiat bonuses?

Usually, and by a wide margin. Bovada pays 75% up to $750 on crypto against 50% up to $250 on cards; SportsBetting.ag pays 100% on crypto against a much smaller fiat match. Books pay more for crypto because the deposits do not get declined and cost them less to process.

How do I calculate what a bonus is really worth?

Take the bonus amount, divide by the total turnover it requires, and multiply by your expected margin of loss on that turnover. A $500 bonus needing $2,500 of action is worth far more than a $1,000 bonus needing $22,500, because you will almost certainly never place the second figure.

What happens if I withdraw before clearing rollover?

The outstanding bonus and any winnings attributable to it are forfeited. Your own deposit is returned. This is standard across the offshore market and it is why declining the bonus is the correct choice for anyone depositing to bet a single game.

Do minimum odds restrictions really matter?

More than the multiplier, often. Wagers priced shorter than the odds floor contribute nothing to rollover. A book with a -500 floor counts nearly everything you bet naturally; a -200 floor excludes a large share of favourite-side action and makes an identical-looking requirement much harder to finish.
