When Is the Best Time to Bet NHL Games?

For sides, bet early — overnight and morning numbers are posted before Canadian handle arrives and before confirmed goalie news tightens the price. For player props, bet late, once starting goalies and line combinations are confirmed, because that is when mispriced props appear.

The overnight window

Books post hockey sides the night before with lower limits and looser numbers. Canadian money arrives through the following day and pushes popular teams — Leafs, Oilers, Canadiens — toward their closing price.

If your opinion is on a heavily backed Canadian team, the overnight number is almost always the better one.

Goalie confirmation is the pivot

Starting goalie news is the single largest information event in a hockey market, and books reprice at different speeds. The minutes after a confirmation are where two accounts pay for themselves.

Props posted before confirmation are frequently left stale for a short window afterwards — saves and shots-against markets especially.

Live betting and the goal effect

Hockey reprices violently on a single goal, and books with slower feeds suspend markets longer. The practical pattern is to have the second account open during a game so the number is available while the primary book is still suspended.
